Parasha Terumah

par le Rav Raphaël Benizri

Parasha Terumah (תרומה) — Shemot 25:1 – 27:19. Read on Shabbat, February 13, 2027.

Summary of Parasha Terumah

G-d asks Moshe to collect an offering from the children of Israel, from every person whose heart moves him to give: gold, silver, copper, dyed wool, linen, skins, acacia wood, oil, spices and precious stones. With these materials they are to make Him a sanctuary, and He will dwell in their midst. The parasha then describes in precise detail the making of the components of the Mishkan, according to the pattern shown to Moshe on the mountain. The ark, made of acacia wood overlaid with gold inside and out, will hold the Testimony; it is topped by a cover of pure gold and two keruvim with outspread wings, facing each other, from where G-d will speak to Moshe. Next come the table, overlaid with gold, on which the showbread will be set, and then the menorah of pure gold, made of a single piece, with its six branches around its central shaft. The Torah describes the curtains that form the Tabernacle, the coverings of goats’ hair and of skins, the acacia boards set upright on silver sockets, the crossbars, and the veil that separates the holy place from the Holy of Holies. Finally, it describes the copper altar for the sacrifices, and the courtyard enclosed by hangings and pillars, with its entrance screen.
